Privacy Policy

Your family's privacy matters enormously to us. This policy explains plainly what data we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it. We will never sell your data or use it for advertising.
1. Who we are
Settle is operated by a UK-based company (referred to in this policy as "Settle," "we," "us," or "our"). We are the data controller for personal data processed through the Settle app and website (settle.baby).

2. What data we collect
Account and profile data
- Your details: Name and email address when you create an account or sign in.
- Baby's profile:Baby's first name, date of birth, due date (for premature babies), sex, feeding method (breast, bottle, or combination), and any additional children you add.
- Caregiver details: Name, email address, and role (e.g. parent, partner, nanny) for additional caregivers you invite to your family account.
Tracking data you log
- Sleep logs (start time, end time, sleep type, location, fall asleep method, difficulty rating).
- Feed logs (time, type, quantity, breast side, pumping volumes).
- Nappy logs (time, type, stool characteristics).
- Health logs (temperature readings, medicine name, dose, timing, symptoms you note).
- Growth measurements (weight, length, head circumference) if you use the growth chart feature.
- Milestone observations you record.
AI coaching data
When you use the AI Sleep Coach feature, your messages and relevant context from your baby's logs (such as recent sleep patterns and age) are sent to Anthropic's API to generate a response. See Section 5 for full details.
Device and technical data
- Device type and operating system version (iOS).
- App version number.
- Anonymous analytics events (page views, feature usage) collected via Vercel Analytics. See Section 6 for full details.
Data we do not collect
- We do not collect precise GPS location.
- We do not access your camera, microphone, or contacts.
- We do not collect your baby's data directly from them — all data is entered by a parent or caregiver.
- We do not collect payment card details. Subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store.
3. Why we collect your data (our legal bases)
Under UK GDPR, we must have a lawful basis for processing personal data. Here is why we process each category:
4. Children's data
Settle is designed for use by parents and guardians, not by children. You must be 18 or over to create an account. We do not knowingly allow children to register or use the app directly.
The app does collect data aboutbabies and young children (such as sleep logs and milestone observations), but this data is entered by you as a parent or caregiver, not by the child themselves. As the account holder and legal guardian, you are providing consent for this data to be processed on your child's behalf.
We take the privacy of children's data seriously and have designed Settle in line with the ICO's Age Appropriate Design Code (Children's Code). In particular:
- Children's data is never used for advertising or shared with advertisers.
- We collect only the minimum data necessary to provide the service.
- Data is stored securely and access is limited to authorised caregivers in your family account.
- You can request deletion of all your data, including your baby's data, at any time (see Section 9).
If you believe a child under 18 has registered an account independently, please contact us at hello@settle.baby and we will delete the account promptly.
5. How we use AI — and what Anthropic sees
The AI Sleep Coach feature is powered by Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic. When you send a message in the coach chat, we send the following to Anthropic's API:
- Your message text.
- Contextual information from your logs that is needed to give a relevant response — for example, your baby's age, recent sleep duration, and feeding method.
- The conversation history within your current session.
This data is processed by Anthropic in accordance with their privacy policy, available at anthropic.com/privacy. We have a data processing agreement with Anthropic. Anthropic processes this data solely to generate a response to your message.
We do not send your name, email address, or any data that directly identifies you as an individual to Anthropic. Baby's first names may be included in the conversational context to make responses feel personal.
AI conversation history is stored in your Settle account so you can refer back to previous sessions. You can delete your coaching history at any time from within the app.
6. Analytics
We use Vercel Analytics to understand how people use our website (settle.baby). Vercel Analytics is designed to be privacy-friendly: it does not use cookies, does not track you across sites, and does not collect personally identifiable information. Data collected includes page views, referrers, device type, and country-level location. No individual is identified.
We do not use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or any other advertising-oriented tracking tools.
7. Data storage and processors
Supabase
Your account data, logs, and app data are stored using Supabase, a database-as-a-service provider. Supabase servers are located in the United States. We have a data processing agreement with Supabase. Data transferred to the US is protected under Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) in accordance with UK GDPR Chapter V.
Anthropic
As described in Section 5, AI coaching messages are processed by Anthropic (United States). We have a data processing agreement with Anthropic covering this processing.
Apple
The Settle app is distributed through the Apple App Store. Subscription payments are handled entirely by Apple. We do not receive your payment card details. Apple's privacy policy governs Apple's own data processing.
Vercel
Our website is hosted on Vercel. Vercel processes minimal technical data (IP addresses, request logs) as part of web hosting. We use Vercel Analytics as described in Section 6.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with advertisers, data brokers, or third parties for marketing purposes — ever.
8. Data retention
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account:
- All personal data and logs are deleted within 30 days.
- Backups may retain your data for a further 90 days before being overwritten, after which it is permanently deleted.
- We may retain certain records where we are legally required to do so (for example, records of transactions for tax purposes).
Anonymous, aggregated data (where you cannot be identified) may be retained indefinitely to help us understand usage patterns and improve the product.
9. Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Right to access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Right to rectification: Ask us to correct inaccurate data.
- Right to erasure:Ask us to delete your data ("right to be forgotten"). You can also delete your account directly from the app.
- Right to restriction: Ask us to restrict how we process your data in certain circumstances.
- Right to data portability: Request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Right to object: Object to processing based on our legitimate interests.
- Right to withdraw consent: Where we rely on consent as our legal basis, you can withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@settle.baby. We will respond within one month. We may need to verify your identity before processing a request.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
10. Security
We take security seriously. Our measures include:
- All data in transit is encrypted using TLS.
- Data at rest is encrypted in our database.
- Your API key for AI features is stored in your device's secure Keychain, not in our servers.
- Access to production systems is restricted and audited.
No system is completely immune to attack. If we ever become aware of a breach that affects your personal data, we will notify you and the ICO as required by law.
11. Cookies and the website
Our website (settle.baby) uses minimal cookies. For full details, please see our Cookie Policy. The Settle iOS app does not use browser cookies.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through a notice in the app before the change takes effect. The "last updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent version.
Continued use of Settle after a change to this policy constitutes your acceptance of the updated version. If you do not accept the updated policy, you may delete your account.
